SeDelle Jean Sauer passed away on June 29, 2016 at the age of 87. SeDelle, who preferred to be called Jean, was born on June 11, 1929 in Kankakee, Illinois to William Paul Jensen and Lillian Mae Chally Jensen. At the age of 18, she left the “small town life,” to move to the excitement of the big city and has called herself a Chicagoan ever since. Jean and Charles Sauer were married in 1950. Charlie took many jobs over the years, but for almost 70 years, year in and year out, he was a church organist. She and Charlie loved each other at first sight and that love grew deeper throughout their 62 years of marriage. Together, they raised three children: Sharon, Debra and Kevin. Jean sometimes took jobs outside the home in order to support the family and worked as a realtor and at various positions at the U.S. Postal Service. She operated an antique shop at Ye Olde Weathervane in Arlington Heights. Her love of antiques was surpassed only by the tremendous love which she had for her family. Jean enjoyed oil painting, home design and decorating, singing in church choirs or at home with the family and listening to her husband perform on the organ. She was known as “the glue that keeps the family together,” always holding parties for celebrations of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays. Jean was a long time resident of the North Side of Chicago, living for the past 20 years at 345 W. Fullerton Parkway near the lake and Lincoln Park Zoo. In addition to Lincoln Park, Jean also lived in the Albany Park, Budlong Woods and Logan Square neighborhoods. She was always an active church member. She attended Bethany Methodist Church on Ashland and The Episcopal Church of the Advent on Logan Boulevard. And for the last 20 years, she attended Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church. Jean had a love for people and was always the one that individuals in the neighborhood, including unemployed and homeless persons, came to for help, as she would pay them to do jobs for her. She also attended many activities of the Masonic Order, as Charlie was both a member of the order and an officer of Loyal Lodge # 1007 in Skokie, IL. Jean was preceded in death by her parents William Jensen and Lillian Chally Jensen, her husband Charles Sauer, her siblings Doris Jensen LeVeque, Maxine Jensen Mess, Norman Jensen and Marshall Jensen and granddaughter-in-law Jenai Christensen Axelson. She is survived by her siblings Richard (Dick) Jensen, Sidney(Jim) Jensen, her children Sharon Sauer, Debra Sauer and Kevin Sauer, her son-in-law Richard (Toby) Lindo, her two grandchildren Mark Axelson (spouse Ingrid Miller Axelson) and Mareva Lindo and her 12 great grandchildren Liahona, Saige, Eve (Briezy), Jinger, Marnae and Rhemadee Axelson and Carmody, Cumorah, Keziah, Noehren, Salecah and Jhoryan Eggett.
We love you Jean – God be with you until we meet again.
