Avram Candea, 85 years old from Skokie, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on March 2, 2016. His parents, Teodor Candea and Zamfira Candea, gave birth to Avram on December 10, 1930 in Neagra, Garda de Sus, Romania. He was the 9th child of 10 born into the family. At 11 years old, he left his childhood home to work and support himself because his father passed away and his mother was widowed. In 1946, he moved to Lenauheim and in 1950, he joined the army and coast guard in Port of Galati where he was stationed for 3 years. On March 22, 1954, he married his sweetheart, Lidia Isfan, who he called his little doll. They had three children, Moise, Octavia, and Dorin. In 1959, he moved to Arad and lived there until he immigrated to Chicago, IL, USA on January 20, 1978.
He was an incredibly hard worker and knowledgeable in everything he did. He knew how to build a house from the ground up, from brick to plumbing to electrical. He worked as a custodian for Philadelphia Church on Clark Street for over 16 years where he was respected and loved. He retired in 1996 from the Church but continued to work at Romanian Village until 2007.
He lived a life of integrity and honor. He was a man that was fiercely dedicated and loved his family dearly. Tender in all his ways, he hardly ever raised his voice, but led with grace. He did not speak much, but was a man of great wisdom when he chose to. We are celebrating the beauty of our father and husband, his life, his accomplishments and his successes in the face of adversity.
He was a member of Philadelphia Church for over 34 years. He was faithful and dedicated to God and toward his people. He gave generously from his heart whether it was through financial support or helping around the church when called upon.
He is survived by his wife, Lidia, his three children and their spouses, Moise & Maria Candea, Octavia & Nick Cheveresan, Dorin & Agnes Candea, his grandchildren, Alan & Colette, Armand, Edward & Alicia, Pamela, Gabriel & Lauren, Jessica, Sebastian, and his great-grandchildren, Kayla Grace and Skyelah Lidia-Ree.
He is also survived by his sister, Zorita Clipa. He was loved like a big brother by his brothers and sisters in law, Samuel & Teresa Isfan, Elena Peptenar, Ana Vaduva, John & Maria isfan, Pavel & Elena Isfan, Ecaterina & Philip Boboc, Cornel & Maria Isfan, and Joseph & Cornelia Isfan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations in Avram Candea's memory be made to the cause of your choice.
