He was commitment to family and community through his 40-year career as a social worker and via his lifelong surrogate parenting activities as “Uncle Charles” and “Base” to a multitude of family members, young adults and children. He was also proud of his time as a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver, and intramural college basketball referee. In his retirement Charles rekindled his love of literature, freshwater € shing, arts and entertainment, and began his transition while watching a movie and laughing with his beloved niece, Wanda Ozier.

Charles was also an avowed activist – dedicated to promoting the wellbeing of families through social and political action. “Chuck” as he was also affectionately known, promoted family and community organizing as a tool of empowerment long before and after it was politically correct to do so.
Charles is preceded in transition by his brother, Robert Neal Williamson (Uncle Punchie), nephew Andreas, his mother and step father, Lola & Lucius Evans, and former wife of thirty three years, Sharon Shannon.
