10 N. Edgelawn Drive, Aurora,

Saturday, January 17th from 9:30-11 am with a funeral service to follow at 11am.

Contributions in Mary’s memory may be made to the ALS Association of Southeastern Wisconsin Patient Services in honor of Doug Turley, Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley or Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Barbee, Mary Calkins (92) of Aurora, died peacefully on January 14, at home with her daughters by her side. Mary was born in Richmond, Wisconsin on New Years Eve in 1922. After graduating from Wisconsin State University in Whitewater, she established herself in Aurora where she taught 38 years, all but one at Bardwell Elementary School.

She was a member of First Methodist Church for many years and later, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Aurora where she devoted much time serving in positions of Deacon and Elder.

Mary was happiest when she was busy—in addition to volunteering at church she was active in many organizations: PEO, AAUW, Aurora Woman’s Club, Jennings Terrace Auxiliary Board, Child Welfare and Illinois Retired Teachers.

Mary is survived by her daughters Annette Laughlin of Aurora, and Janet (Scott) Myers of Roscoe, IL; three grandchildren, Abby Laughlin (Kent) Bellgrau, Andrew (Nancy) and Brian (Molly) Myers; a great granddaughter and grandson; a sister Glynne Stafslein of Janesville, WI; a best buddy Dorothy (Dot) Sullivan and some other very special friends. Mary’s daughters give special thanks for the support of Season’s Hospice during their mother’s last difficult days.
