Elizabeth Murray Carruthers, 54, passed away early Saturday morning November 19 following a brief illness. She will be greatly missed by her two children Christopher Martin 18, and Elizabeth Martin 16, birth mother Annette Murray, adoptive father Kenneth Carruthers of Del Rey Beach FL, adoptive mother Kaye Carruthers (deceased), step-mother Sandra, brother Derby Carruthers of Toronto and a host of other family, friends, as well as those from her faith community North Park Covenant Church. A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at North Park Covenant Church, 5250 N. Christiana Ave, Chicago on Sunday, November 27 at 2:30 pm - reception to follow in the church parlors
Obituary:
Liz, as she was known all her life, was born in Vancouver, B.C. but moved to New York City and Manhasset, Long Island when she was just six-months old. New York City was home for most of her childhood years. Her father, a noted architect, worked internationally as well, giving opportunity to the family to have extended stays in Greece and London. At 16, the family moved to Iran for a year’s sabbatical, living in Tehran. There she explored many of the ancient cities and sites of the Persian desert. Liz’s secondary education was at Havergal College in Toronto, Canada. In 1974, the family returned to the US settling in Evanston, IL. She attended Evanston Hospital School of Nursing later receiving her RN. She completed her BSN at North Park University and joined the staff of St. Francis Hospital in Evanston. It was here she met her husband, David Martin. The two gave birth to two children Christopher in 1993, Elizabeth in 1995. Liz was a staff nurse for the Resource Team at North Shore Evanston Hospital from 1989 till her death. Born in B.C. Liz obtained her US Citizenship in 2006. Liz will always be remembered as a thoughtful, reflective and generous individual, dedicated to her family, church and career
