Demetrios E. Koutrotsios, age 78, of LaGrange Park, IL, passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
He was born on October 15, 1941 to Evangelos and Evangeli Koutrotsios in Kozani, Greece. As a young man, he came to the United States as an immigrant, eventually becoming an American citizen. He served in the United States Army and was sent to serve in Vietnam.
In the United States, he earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and married his wife Diane, who gave birth to their daughter Angela. He spent his civilian life working in the restaurant industry, eventually settling into his decades long job managing the famous Jim's Original, formerly on Maxwell Street, now on Union in Chicago, near the University of Illinois at Chicago. He loved frequenting Greek Town, especially eating in the Greek restaurants, where he got to know most of the owners over the years. He also made many loyal friends in the Chicago area, both in and outside of the Greek-American community.
He is survived by his daughter, Angela Rose.
