Kenneth F Abuja, age 84 of Chicago, IL passed away suddenly on December 3, 2019. Kenneth was born on January 7, 1935 to Frank and Marie (nee Pollack) Abuja. Ken liked to say, “I’m one day older than Elvis!”
Kenneth grew up loved and happy on Leavitt Street in Chicago and graduated from Lane Technical High School in 1952. Kenneth was part of the Penguin Diver’s Club and he and his diving buddies had many adventures on Lake Michigan. Kenneth loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and enjoying walks in the woods. Kenneth was honorably discharged from the Army in 1962 where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He found his profession in Mold making and even after he retired, his boss would call him back to work on difficult molds as his boss stated often, “These kids don’t have the touch that you do to fix what this computers can’t.” Kenneth found the love of his life, Barbara Sandberg, while arguing over a parking spot one night. Kenneth and Barbara married on February 1, 1964 and stayed married until Barbara’s death in 2008.
Kenneth adopted Barbara’s son, Michael (Layton) Abuja and he was a great father and inspiration to
Michael. Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his brothers, John and Alvin, his Sister-in-Law Dorothy and his grandson, Jonathan Abuja. Ken is survived by his son Michael,
Sister-In-Law, Judy (Sandberg) Mareci, his Daughter-in-Law, Mary (Abuja) Hixson, many nieces and
nephews and the apple of his eye, his Granddaughter, Amber Abuja.
Anyone that knew Kenneth knew of his love for the Lord and he lived a godly life of kindness and love to everyone. He evangelized to everyone about his devotion to God. He was a devoted son, husband,
father, Uncle, Grandfather and a friend to everyone. He truly was a man that who never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was generous to his friends and family and was loved by all and will be greatly
Bible verse for mass card: Psalm 1: 1-2 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked
