In Loving Memory of Santa Oquendo

On September 9, 2019, Santa “Santita” Oquendo went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Santa was born in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico on November 1, 1928 to Josefa Martinez Luna and Victorio Luna.
In 1948, She married Saturnino Oquendo. They moved to Chicago in 1956 and have been residents for 63 years.

Santa was very dedicated to her cherished children, family, and countless friends. Santa loved to love on people, often opening her doors to those in need. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 23, which she committed to memory, practice, and to her heart.

In keeping with her spirit of servitude, Santa worked for many years at Association House as a Coordinator for the Special Needs Adult Program. She would always say “Our purpose in life is to serve others and not dwell on ourselves. And if you can, please help children and adults with disabilities, because they can teach us so much about what it truly means to be selfless.”

She is survived by her beloved children, Lydia Oquendo, Nancy Oquendo, Miguel “Mikey” Oquendo, along with her precious grandchildren, Jelissa Oquendo and Miguel Oquendo Jr., and her great-grandchildren Nicholas Santino Delgado and Ava Luna Delgado. Santa is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and lifelong friends, all of whom she loved and touched deeply.

Santa was preceded in death by her loving husband, Saturnino Oquendo; her mother, Josefa Luna Martinez; her father, Victorio Luna; and her sisters, Celedonia Colon Luna, Fela Oquendo Luna, and Genara Garriga Luna.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Sunday, September 15, 2019, between the hours of 3:00 pm and 8:00 p.m. at Benson Family Funeral Home located at 3224 W. Montrose in Chicago. We will meet on Monday, September 16, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. at Benson Family Funeral Home for the procession to Saint Aloysius Church where a memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Immediately following the mass, the interment will be held at Rosehill Cemetery, located at 5800 Ravenswood Avenue, Chicago, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that you donate to a charity of your choice or to a needy family of your choosing. Santa would have loved that!
