Ruben Palacios of Chicago, IL passed away, August 6, 2019 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born in Chester, CA on August 18, 1953 to Maria Rita Palacios (Lopez) and Santiago Quintanilla Palacios He is predeased by his father (1997), and the family moved to Chicago, IL in 1967, when he was 13.
Ruben is survived by loving daughters Johanna (Jojo) Palacios(Dunn) and Erica Palacios of Indiana and their mother, Johanna Murphy (Ludlow) and Jaymee and Genielynn Palacios of Chicago and their mother, Dory Callo.
In addition to his four wonderful daughters, he leaves behind three granddaughters (Ashley, Tiffany, and Summer), two grandsons, (Dustin and Sebastian), three great grandchildren (Elisa, Catalina and Jack), three sisters (Rachel Wilkenson, Irma and Kathy Palacios,), two brothers, (Joe Louie and Juan Manuel Palacios), several nieces/nephews, and many many cousins.
A life-long north-sider, Ruben worked at the former Children’s Memorial Hospital, Stewart-Warner, and other notable Chicago institutions. His last employment was at CPS Lincoln Park High School for 20 years where he had many friends and made a lasting impact with his easy smile and big heart. Ruben was a “Jack (Jake) of all trades”, “Bob the Builder”, always willing to help with renovations, painting, repairs and with other projects as needed.
Ruben’s life revolved around family; his spare time was spent doing jigsaw puzzles, building/collecting model cars, drawing and riding his bike all over the metropolitan area, commuting to work on his bike through rain, sleet and snow, even though he was not a mailman. He loved music! Not a day went by without him listening, humming or singing a favorite Motown, or classic rock tune with an expression of joy.
Ruben (Jake) Palacios… young at heart, truly a special man, son, father, brother, cousin, uncle, brother in law, friend, .. beautiful soul. He probably never imagined how loved he was by so many and how he touched their lives. Without realizing, he was a teacher, a mentor, a shoulder to cry on, but most importantly, a friend who considered you family and the families "go to" guy with a big heart. His family and friends will never forget and miss him, BOOM-LY! "
