Kathryn Klaiber Kathryn F Klaiber - age: 80
(April 30, 1937 to December 29, 2017 )
Resident of Glenview, Illinois

Kathryn Francis “Kay” Klaiber (nee Gottfried) of Glenview passed away peacefully Friday December 29, 2017 at the age of 80 after a brief battle with cancer. Kathryn was born in Mineola New York on April 30, 1937, to parents Henry and Catherine Gottfried and older siblings, Henry Gottfried and Marilyn (Krueger).

Kay’s family moved to Pennsylvania for a time, and it was at Bristol, Pennsylvania’s DelHaas High School where Kathryn earned the distinction of class valedictorian for the class of 1955. Kay met Theodore Andreas “Ted” Klaiber at Hofstra University in Long Island NY and fell in love. The couple married in 1957 and settled in Evanston, Illinois in 1965 where they raised their three children Greg, Jeff, and Alison (Taskovic). In the late 1960’s the kids joined the Evanston Speedskating Club. It was through this sport where Kay and Ted found friendship and social contribution. They volunteered in various capacities as their children competed in skating meets across the United States. Kay earned the distinction of being a nationally certified speedskating official and Ted became an international level starter. After their children moved on from skating, the friendships Kay and Ted gained from the sport became lifelong.

Kay was a notably hard worker, raising her three children while working full time as an office manager for General Finance through the 1970’s and early 1980’s. In 1984 Kay joined the Brown/Kaplan/Liss accounting firm in Evanston as office manager, and remained a valued and trusted staff member for over thirty years.

Kay was blessed to have plenty to do as Nana to six grandchildren and loved attending many of their sporting and extracurricular activities. She also enjoyed volunteer work at the Chicago Botanic Garden and for the Evanston Police and Fire Foundation. Kay was a loving and supportive mother, avid sports fan, a voracious reader of crime novels, and enjoyed traveling with Ted who passed away in 2012 after 55 years of marriage.

Kay is survived by her sons Greg (Nancy Klaiber) and Jeff (Sue Klaiber), her daughter Alison (Ralph Taskovic), granddaughter Sarah Klaiber, grandsons Jon and Patrick Klaiber, Matthew, Brendan, and Trace Taskovic. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Evanston Police and Fire Foundation. Services are pending.
