Ann Jeanette Sleeva, dearly loved sister and aunt, died unexpectedly on December 5, 2017, in Evanston, Illinois, from complications caused by ovarian cancer. Ann was born and raised in Greenfield, Wisconsin and over the years has lived in New York City, Dallas, and most recently, Chicago for the past 20 years.
Ann loved music. She regularly sang and led at Sacred Harp singings on the north side of Chicago. She took great pleasure in playing the violin and the piano, and also dabbled with the clarinet, flute, accordion, mandolin, guitar, and other instruments. A life-long learner, Ann earned an AA in Library Science from Alverno College, Milwaukee, a BA in History from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University, Chicago, and a ministry degree from Christ for the Nations Institute, Dallas. She enjoyed studying languages, including German and Polish, among others. Ann relished traveling and experiencing new sights across the US and abroad, including Ireland, Poland, and Israel.
Ann was very devoted to her nieces and nephews, always looking for opportunities to share gifts with each one, particularly the gifts of her time and company. She loved her family, both immediate and extended, and never passed up an opportunity to attend family events, celebrations, get-togethers and reunions. Her devotion to Christ surrounded her in life with numerous church family members from various traditions and cultures. She was known by her large circle of friends and acquaintances for her gentle and sweet disposition, her ready and friendly smile, and her kindness towards all who were touched by her life.
Ann is survived by her brother, Joseph (Melanie) Sleeva, sister Caroline (Ozzie) Santiago, brother John (Diane) Sleeva, nieces Jennifer (Greg) Morgan, Emily Sleeva, Ruth Santiago, and Katelyn Sleeva, and nephews Charles Sleeva and Nathaniel Santiago. She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Ruth Sleeva (nee Schleicher). In addition to flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s name to the Chicago Children’s Choir (www.ccchoir.org) or the Jesus People USA (www.jpusa.org).
